Holyheld vs Mercury

Mercury fits a company formed in the United States that pays mostly in USD by bank transfer, because its domestic and USD international wires are free. Holyheld Business fits a company that needs named USD and EUR accounts and moves money between bank payments and stablecoins in the same account.

Where Holyheld differs from Mercury

Stablecoins

Stablecoins in the account.

Mercury accounts hold fiat only. Holyheld converts USDC and EURC to USD or EUR, and back, in the account you pay from.

Currencies

A EUR account beside the USD one.

Named USD and EUR accounts, so a European customer pays by SEPA into an IBAN in your company’s name.

Stablecoins are the main difference

Mercury states that its accounts can currently only hold fiat. A stablecoin payment means sending funds to a third-party exchange first (Mercury).

With Holyheld, conversion happens in the account: off-ramp transfers turn supported stablecoins into USD or EUR, on-ramp transfers do the reverse, and swaps exchange one stablecoin for another.

Holyheld works with USDC on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, Avalanche and Solana, and with EURC on Ethereum, Base and Solana. Companies outside the EEA can also use USDT, PYUSD and USDG.

Which one fits

Mercury fits

  • A US-formed company paying and getting paid in USD by bank transfer.
  • A company that wants a free base plan and free domestic wires.

Holyheld fits

  • A company paid in stablecoins that settles its costs in USD or EUR.
  • A company that needs a named EUR account alongside its USD account.

Common questions

  • Mercury’s FAQ says its customers must be formed and registered in the United States or a US territory.

  • Mercury says its accounts can currently only hold fiat. You can send funds from a Mercury account to a crypto exchange.

  • A standard international USD wire is free, though intermediary banks may deduct fees from what the recipient receives. Having the sender pay all fees (OUR) costs $15, which Mercury’s pricing page says makes a full receipt more likely, and wires in other currencies carry a 1% exchange fee.

  • No. Mercury accounts have no IBAN and hold USD only. Incoming EUR wires are converted to USD, and EUR goes out as an international wire.

  • Yes. Named USD and EUR accounts are available for companies.
